Arianna's Mural: Windows

by Meredith 1. November 2011 15:28

Taping off the window archesThe plan is to mimic the arches in Madeline's room but not devote the whole wall to them. I decided that the perspective in this room is going to be from the boat floating out on the sea in Maddie's room. These windows are the portholes on the boat and we will be looking up at the castle. First step is to tape off the windows before painting in the background.

Arianna's Mural: Wall Texture

by Meredith 31. October 2011 15:27

A friend came over and helped me complete the wall texturing. I used the same technique as Madeline's room but made the colors a shade lighter. This room is smaller so I wanted to keep the color light. Base coat is a warm beige and top coats are antique white and a 50/50 mix of the beige with the white. I still need to paint the trim in the room and then I will be ready to start the mural work.

I hope to get some stuff sketched out onto the walls next week. I checked out a whole stack-load of books about constellations from the library and now I need to piece together the images I want on the walls.

The tape is off…

by Meredith 13. July 2011 23:05

The tape is off of the mural border and the first coat of paint is on the arches. Sooooo close to being done!

Last mural element complete!

by Meredith 12. July 2011 23:04

I think I am ready to peal the tape off the mural borders and paint the arches.

Mural wins!

Totally had a Bob Ross moment while painting the frogs. I keep looking at them and thinking to myself "damn I'm good!" :D

Finished the wisteria I think.

by Meredith 7. June 2011 22:56

Took a bunch of mural photos this morning. I think I'm done with the wisteria and nearly done with the castle. The tree panel is nearly complete. Still have to complete a flowering shrub, lily flowers, castle window, couple of frogs & fairies, a dragon and the railing. So close & yet so far!

Mural progress...

I've done some work on the castle and the peacock. Enjoy!

Productive day today!

by Meredith 16. March 2011 22:49

Got a 40min walk in, house cleaning, baked cookies, some sewing done, played with Miss Maddie, cooked a couple of meals, and worked on Maddie's mural a bit.

More mural progress...

by Meredith 12. March 2011 21:39

I got a couple more days of work into Maddie's murals and Hunter has taken updated pics. Some parts have come along nicely, some not so much and are giving me trouble. I'll work through it I'm sure; it's just gonna take more time and many more layers of paint. :)

Hunter told me about a top coat paint that he had read about that is supposed to protect walls from crayons and pens. I'm not sure if I'm going to that yet. I would be a little worried about it changing color over time.

I've debated taking commissions for painting murals on large sheets of masonite for people to install into their rooms. But the cost for my work would be really expensive so I don't think many people would be willing to buy them. i would make more money working at a 7/11. :P

About Meredith Cook

Welcome to my repository of creative expression. I'm not a happy camper unless I am making something and over the years I have dabbled in quite a few different kinds of art projects. Some projects come from taking art classes, others are completely hobby driven, and projects like home decor come from a need to customize an item and make it better or unique. The overall theme behind what I do is to learn how to manipulate objects and practice what I know about visual aesthetic and good design. Oh yeah, and to have fun.
